Chhattisgarh’s Nami Rai Parikh wins gold at International Powerlifting Championship in Japan

Nami Rai Parikh from Chhattisgarh made history by clinching a gold medal at the Asia, Africa, Pacific International Powerlifting Championship in Japan. She won in the women's 57 kg category with a 185 kg deadlift. Adarsh Attavar of Karnataka also secured gold in the senior 59 kg category, setting a world record in deadlift with 276 kg.

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh's Nami Rai Parikh created history by winning a gold medal at the Asia, Africa, Pacific International Powerlifting Championship held in Himeji, Japan. Competing in the women's 57 kg category, Rai secured the gold with a deadlift of 185 kg. She also achieved an overall fifth position in her category. This marks Rai's first international appearance.Adarsh Attavar of Karnataka, also part of the Indian powerlifting team, won a gold medal in the senior 59 kg category. His performance included a 260 kg squat (gold), a 135 kg bench press (silver), and a 276 kg deadlift (gold), which set a new world record. His total lift was 671 kg.The 31-member Indian contingent comprised 18 women and 13 men across sub-junior, junior, senior, and masters categories. The Indian team secured third place overall in the championship, with a total of 6 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
